Tameside Children's Rights Service is for all young people looked after by Tameside local authority and for young people who have recently left care.

We can travel anywhere in the country to see you.

We don't work for social services.

We don't look at your care file so we won't know anything about you apart from what you want us to know.

Confidentiality

We will not share what you tell us with other people without your say unless you tell us something that means you are (or somebody else is) being harmed.

What is Tameside Children's Rights Service?

TCRS promotes children's rights in various ways such as providing independent advice, support and representation and helps young people express their wishes and feelings.

Who is TCRS for?

For children and young people who are looked after or receive an aftercare service from Tameside local authority.

How can TCRS help?

Independent Vistors (or IVs) are adult volunteers. An IV can be matched up to a young person who does not have a lot of helpful contact with their family. An IV will keep in regular contact with a young person to befriend, advise and support them.

Advocates enable young people's voices to be heard so they can be involved in making choices and decisions about their care.

An advocate can listen to a young person and help them put their views forward, for example in meetings and reviews. An advocate can help a young person to say what they want or can speak on behalf of a young person. This can include supporting a young person to make a complaint.

Consultation with children and young people to find out what they think about the services provided for them and how they could be improved.

Information about children's rights, for example how a young person can make a complaint and what a young person's rights are around issues.

Training to promote children's rights to social services staff and carers to ensure young people are listened to and involved in decisions about their care.

How does it work?

If you would like to know more or you know a young person who wants to get in touch then please call us on 0161 331 9381 to find out more.

We are happy to visit a young person to have a chat about what we do and what we can offer them.

Please tell young people about us and help them get in touch with us. We can only work with a young person if they want us to, so please check with them first.

Confidentiality

We will keep things children and young people tell us private unless they tell us something that might hurt them or somebody else badly.
