VOLUNTEERS WANTED

Could You Become a Volunteer Advocate?

Looking for a new challenge? If you are a good listener, an articulate communicator and are concerned about safeguarding children and young people’s rights then you may be interested in becoming a volunteer advocate with Tameside Children’s Rights Service.

Volunteer advocates are volunteers aged 21 and over that enable young people’s voices to be heard so they can be involved in making choices and decisions about their care.

An advocate can listen to a young person and help them put their views forward, for example in meetings and reviews.  An advocate can help a young person to say what they want or can speak out on their behalf.  This can include supporting a young person to make a complaint.

Could You Become an Independent Visitor?

Independent visitors are volunteers aged 21 and over who befriend and support children and young people aged 6 to 21, who are in care and have little or no contact with their parents or families.

Independent visitors take an active interest in the lives, hopes and concerns of young people and are there to listen and help.

Volunteers can make a real difference by sharing a hobby, sport or interest; helping with school or college work; and going on outings, like the cinema, park, bowling and having fun together!

What’s most important is they are activities the young person wants to do. Your role is to provide support and encouragement. You may even find yourself agreeing to take part in something you never thought of trying before.

So whatever your background, experience or lifestyle, volunteering for Tameside Children’s Rights Service could be for you!

All volunteers receive training and support and are reimbursed for all their expenses.

If you have some time to spare, have the ability to be a good listener and want to help – call Natalie Doran, Project Manager on 0800 195 2978.
